Update, Sept. 7:
Former Dartmouth alderman and MLA Jerry Pye has announced his candidacy for city council, running in District 6 against Darren Fisher.
Pye is an old school lefty, fiery and deeply knowledgeable on the issues. He lists several issues he's concerned with on his website, but I'm particularly interested in this one:
Revitalization of Communities-In 1995-96 prior to amalgamation the former City of Dartmouth hired a consultant to study an area titled Highfield - Pinecrest- Brule. One of the significant recommendations has yet to be considered. The area within the boundary of the study area rezoned R1M, which allowed for the building of single family homes on undersized lots. The intent was to engage the development community in a Pilot Project to build affordable single family homes that the residents of the community could afford.
I've discussed this issue with Pye before, and he says the report is still valid, and HRM should implement its findings.
Pye represents a significant challenge to Fisher, who has distinguished himself for being indistinguishable. All of a sudden Dartmouth north is becoming interesting.
