Any professional athlete who’s also markets candy to the masses is cool by me. Coming down from last week’s tennis showdown at Sandjam, and next week’s US Open, the time is right to start making a racket about this tennis ball-shaped gum designed by the third-best women’s player in the world, Maria Sharapova.

Apparently it’s been sugar fueling all those backhands. The Russian Willy Wonka’s Sugarpova line (which serves up both gum and gummy candies) is available at Sweet Jane’s (5431 Doyle Street, 425-0168) and no where else east of Montreal. Assuming it tastes something like the sweet success of a love game, animalistic tennis grunting may ensue.
