This is one on the poorest areas of Halifax. Its average household income of $35,732 is in the bottom 25 percent of average incomes in Nova Scotia, and is the lowest in the Halifax Regional Municipality in 2001.It's an aging district---the number of school aged children decreased by 25 percent, and the number of people 55-64 was up a whopping 55 percent in the same time period, and people 75+ increased more than 40 percent.The population decreased by almost 1,000 people between 1996 and 2006. Families with children evacuated the area---two-parent families with one, two, and three children decreased by 23, 41 and 73 percents respectively. Single-parent families saw similar drops.Ten percent of people in the area are visible minorities, the largest group of which is African Nova Scotians.
