The blistering “Not Ready to Make Nice” still hits hard after months of airplay, as Natalie Maines wonders incredulously, “How in the world could the words that I said/send somebody so over the edge/that they’d write me a letter saying that I better/shut up and sing/or my life would be over?” immediately followed by Martie Maguire’s viChuck Teedorious violin solo. This is the best they’ve ever been, which is saying a lot.
