"It's so awesome," says Catriona Sturton about the 20th anniversary of HPX. "I don't know how to emphasize how much it means to me; 'a lot' just doesn't sound like enough," says the songwriter, best known to Haligonians playing bass in Plumtree in the late '90s.

Nowadays, Sturton lives in Ottawa where she works for a literary non-profit called the Imagination Library---started by Dolly Parton, no less---and performs as a solo artist, writing folk songs with a tinge of New Orleans blues. She has about three albums' worth of material written, and recently demoed a handful of songs with Rolf Klausener of The Acorn, but admits that she's taking her time pulling a proper debut album together.

"In my head, I toyed with the idea of having a live-only career, but I've realized that you do have to put out records," she says with a laugh. "I think initially, when you write a few songs, you're like 'Hey, these might be OK.' Now, I feel like I've got a body of songs that I feel good about, and I've gotten some nice feedback from people I really respect as songwriters. So I'm poised and ready."

Expect to hear a good deal of this new material at her Company House show, along with blues songs that will undoubtedly showcase Sturton's renowned harmonica playing. And, this being 20 years of HPX and all, don't be surprised if a Plumtree song gets pulled out as well.
