Anchorman 2

For those of us on both sides of the camera

Perm party

The invention of 24-hour news brings Ron Burgundy and the gang to New York City in Anchorman 2, maybe you’ve heard of it? When GNN hire him on, Burgundy brings along Brick (Steve Carell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and Champ (David Koechner AKA Todd Packer); unfortunately their team is given the 2am-5am slot. In one of those movie bets no one ever makes IRL, Burgundy bets primetime shotshot Jack Lime (James Marsen, perfectly cast) that the graveyard shift will get higher ratings. So they do a bunch of the stories that have become commonplace—cute animals, patriotism, cooking and fear-mongering about weather. Written by Ferrell and director Adam McKay, Anchorman 2 almost has something interesting to say about the state of journalism, but would rather riff on the 80s and jam in a bunch of dumb cameos (Drake?). Once Burgundy goes blind and starts raising a baby shark, it’s like good night and good luck. Should’ve been way funnier.
