Easter Weekend Openings | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Did you know it was only two years ago that you couldn’t buy a drink in a bar on Good Friday? If you ordered food you could have a drink with a meal, but if you wanted to exercise your right to get loaded on a holy day in the Christian calendar, it was a lot harder to do. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed. Now you can tie one on at any establishment open on Good Friday. Of course, what exactly is open on Good Friday, we hear the question posed by the thirsty individual. Well, Winston’s (278 Lacewood Drive, 443-7024) will be open, planning a “Good Friday Giv’er” and hosting a band, The Good Bunnies. The Carleton (1685 Argyle Street, 422-6335) will be open on Friday but closed Monday. And The Seahorse (1665 Argyle Street, 423-7200) is doing a “Sabbath on Sabbath” Day, with a Black Sabbath tribute show on Easter Sunday, featuring the Broken Ohms. However, the Fife & Drum (1919 Upper Water Street, 421-1700) will be closed Friday through Sunday. Most retail businesses will be closed Good Friday, and Easter Sunday is also designated retail closing day and as such, many retail stores won't be open. Cinemas, video stores, drug stores and variety stores can be open. Government offices stay closed Friday through Monday, including public libraries.
