    Mdou Moctar w/Superfluid

    Thu., July 11, 10:30 p.m.
The Seahorse Tavern 2037 Gottingen Street, Halifax North End

Hailing from a teensy village on the hems of the Sahara, Mdou Moctar is a singer-songwriter who strums in the style of Tuareg, becoming an "underground success on the pirate mp3 networks of West Africa" with his first release in the early 2000s. Since then, he's relocated to, as Jazz Fest puts it, "Agadez, the center of Niger’s guitar scene," to form a band and release hit record after hit record. He arrives in Halifax on the wings of soft, lush-layered songs from the desert picnics of youth—where he and his pals learned to play and pen music. What could be a better soundtrack for summer? 902-423-7200

    Bernice w/The Drug Rugs

    Fri., July 12, 10:30 p.m.
The Seahorse Tavern 2037 Gottingen Street, Halifax North End

Sharing the same label as Feist, Broken Social Scene and Fucked Up, you don't have to know Bernice to know the quality tunage the five-piece will have packed up its sleeves. Here, on the back of its latest, Puff LP: In the air without a shape, the band takes a stab at what it calls "pop minimalism," taking as much from R&B as it does from electronic music. See the hazy mix and try not to fall in love. 902-423-7200

    Burnt Black

    Sat., July 27, 8 p.m.
The Seahorse Tavern 2037 Gottingen Street, Halifax North End

Burnt Black was spawned in the sonic space of rotten, dark metal, coming together to make loud, eardrum-shredding noise in 1994 Yarmouth—of all the unexpected places. While Nova Scotia's music scene at the time was mostly thought of as Sloan-types and fiddle tunes, this four-piece wanted to mosh straight into the sea. Here, the dudes reunite for a one-off reunion show that's sure to melt your face. 902-423-7200
