Certainly Cinnamon's kitchen sitch

The cafe stays on Barrington while the catering gets its own home

Certainly Cinnamon (1673 Barrington Street) might be your favourite spot to grab a sandwich and a cinnamon roll, but it’s also a catering king pin—a catering king pin that’s been working out of three separate kitchens in order to make its 60-plus weddings a year work. After appealing to our nosy side with a tweet about “signing papers” a couple of weeks ago, Scott Colwell (who owns the business with his wife Donna Colwell as well as Terry Pottie) assures us the cafe portion of the biz is staying put, but Certainly Cinnamon is moving its catering operation to one, massive commercial kitchen further north at 3204 Barrington Street.

“Ninety percent of what we do is catering,” says Colwell. “For example, Saturday I [had] three weddings...they’re monster jobs and it’s all happening behind the scenes at our little coffee shop. And the customers at our coffee shop are suffering and they don’t realize why. Now our employees downtown will only focus on the cafe.” He says catering team will make the move in the early fall, once wedding season begins to wrap.
