Barbara Roberts has made one heck of a career in crafting. After running Bogside Weaving in Newfoundland for over 15 years, she moved to Halifax and opened her Hydrostone boutique the Bogside Gallery (5527 Young Street) in 1996. What was originally meant to be a Christmas pop-up, giving shoppers the chance to wrap up some of her handmade woven pieces, the Bogside came to be a hot spot for both craft producers and art and craft shoppers, showcasing work from across Atlantic Canada. Over the years the shop’s garnered many accolades, most recently being named one of the top five retailers in the region for 2014, 2015 and 2016 by the Atlantic Crafts Trade Show. But 2016 brings a well-earned retirement for Roberts, meaning that Monday March 15 the Bogside will close its doors for the final time.
