April 17 Record Store Day: Obsolete Records

In this era of closing music and media retailers, former CD Plus assistant manager Ian Fraser is kicking at the darkness until it bleeds daylight, as Bruce Cockburn once sang. He's starting a new north end music store in late April/early May---opening in the old Parade Antiques space---called Obsolete Records (2454 Agricola Street). The name may be a tongue-in-cheek jab at the state of music and the fact that vinyl records have made a big comeback recently. “I’ve been doing it for 10 years, it’s all I know how to do,” says Fraser on his reasons behind opening a music outlet. He says to expect a more specialized selection of music than you might have found at CD Plus but he says he will offer vinyl, CDs and DVDs, a collection of both new and used.
