Michael Butt has been practising for a decade in Halifax, most of that time working out of a chiropractic clinic, with proven success. (Readers with good memories for amazingly appropriate names will remember his 2008 first-place Best Massage Therapist victory.) Butt, however, is not a person to sit around on his laurels. “You’ve got to try to grow,” he says, so in mid-2010 he started his own clinic, Magic Touch, in the same building as silver-winning yoga studio Halifax Yoga. He now runs a thriving small business, already employing a shiatsu massage expert, with plans to hire another therapist in November. This on top of treating his own patients, plus expanding his skills. Just last winter he added cupping, using heated glass bowls as suction cups, to give a different effect than hands alone.
