Lupe Fiasco
The Cool
Atlantic
The layered orchestration of rock and R&B hooks, melodic vocals and infectious beats found on The Cool are earning Fiasco much critical acclaim. Tracks like “Streets On Fire” and “Fighters” are great examples of Fiasco’s ability to spit intelligent lyrics while maintaining a beautifully melancholy sound. More important is the fact that The Cool is the genuine shit. Without hurting the flow, the album goes from smooth tracks, like “The Coolest,” to club banger “Dumb It Down.” Lupe Fiasco is smarter than Xzibit, hipper than KRS-One and more smooth than Kanye. He combines these traits better than anyone, making people “start to think that smart is cool.”
