Kate Nash
Made of Bricks
Fiction
Although Kate Nash’s thick-

accented singing style is always compared to fellow Brit Lily Allen, on her debut album Made of Bricks, Nash sounds more like Regina Spektor’s tweemo younger sister. After the jingly single “Foundations” became an online phenom, the fun pop album was released early---a mish-mash of styles that play to the theme of growing up and falling in and out of love. The 19-year-old singer lacks Allen’s middle-finger toughness---“Dickhead,” a take-down of an ex-boyfriend, sounds like it’s sung to the mirror---and there are moments of diaristic intimacy. This quirky album isn’t for those who enjoy squashing cutesy

animals.
