Eighteen years after she lost her older brother Steve to AIDS-related illness, Cathy Busby is ready to part with his record collection, or rather pay it forward. "Even when he was very ill, there was always music playing," says Busby of her music-loving brother, who left her his massive library of vinyl that includes everything from The Beatles to Beethoven and Jethro Tull to Bette Midler. This year the timing was right to pass them on. "Over the last couple of years around World AIDS Day I would think, I should do something with these albums, and this year it all came together," says Busby who, with the help of the Khyber, is hosting a celebration shindig and fundraiser where lucky attendants will take turns picking from Steve's collection of tunes. Busby's taking it to the next level, too, by using the records as material for an art installation. The albums will create a plethora of colour just as vibrant as the night itself. DaPoPo's Garry Williams hosts this evening of reliving songs from the past and sharing Steve Busby's musical spirit and there'll be tasty snacks from local foodies and dance jams from DJ Al Barbour. All funds raised will support the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia and the Khyber. You best get your ticket early---there are only 150.
