Who would have ever thought that CBC Radio 2 would become the saviour of Halifax's nauseating radio scene? Radio 2 has finally moved out of the 17th century, replacing hours of sleep-inducing classical music with the new afternoon show, The Drive, hosted by Mount Uniacke's Rich Terfry (AKA Buck 65). Featuring independent artists, upcoming Canadian musicians and obscure rock masterpieces, The Drive is by far the best show ever to hit the Halifax airwaves (sorry CKDU fans, but if no one is listening, it doesn't really count). Tom Allan's morning show on Radio 2 also features less-played but interesting music and beats anything on any of Halifax's commercial stations (Kim Mitchell on perpetual repeat or bathroom jokes and inane commentary that make the average listener want to reach through the radio and strangle the DJ). It's amazing that it took so long for a city with so many young people and such a good music scene to get decent radio.
The Drive plays from 3-6pm, Monday to Friday on Radio 2 (102.7 in Halifax). I have no affiliation with CBC, I just want people to know that these shows exist.
