Spring Garden Art and Sidewalk Sale

With the end of summer drawing near local shopkeepers are gearing up to put their fall inventory on display. To help with some of this seasonal change over the 7th annual Spring Garden Art and Sidewalks Sale is taking place this weekend, August 22 and 23. While majority of merchants along the bustling downtown strip sell merchandise, local artisans will be painting city scenes. For those who find gallery’s a touch pretentious and stuffy, its’ an opportunity to watch the artists work in the comfort of the outdoors.

“Artists come and paint the gardens, Victoria Park, the library courtyard and the street,” says Krista MacDonald, of the Spring Garden Area Merchants Association. “Basically it’s similar to the Paint Mahone Bay festival but with a downtown-style.”

The artists will be out from 10 to 5PM each day, setting up their easels on street corners, beside trees, along pathways in the Public Gardens and throughout the Spring Garden Road area. Some of the many businesses participating in the sidewalk sale include: Mill’s (5486 Spring Garden), American Apparel (1482 Queen), Dugger’s Mens Wear (5476 Spring Garden), and Jennifer’s of Nova Scotia (5635 Spring Garden).
