Dear Ms. Lowe,
Thank you for crucifying (sorry, that's probably not PC) the legislation of Christmas by Oxford Town Council ("Out on a limb," Dec 8). My sister and I are Oxford natives, and have never been so ashamed of it as we have this past month. We've been ashamed of Oxford frequently, but this move has to take the cake. Embarrassment in the Globe and Mail is one thing, but it's downright humiliating to be lampooned by our beloved Coast. Not that we blame you, we're in complete agreement. There are reasons we've moved away to Halifax, this just adds one to a very large pile. We'd like to encourage you, and other Coast readers, to write the Oxford Journal at [email protected] and let the town know exactly how it's being viewed in the outside world. Frankly, we're tired of having to lie about where we're from. Maybe a few hundred extremely critical letters to the editor could help the council and mayor realize the effect their outdated actions have on the town's many ex-pats.
PS. It's also illegal to operate a bar within town limits. Obviously these people must be stopped.
