Ground Zero opens largest indoor climbing zone in the east

Weekly shoptalklets, covering local business news from Ground Zero, Dartmouth Yoga & Wellness Studio, PC Medic and Trapeze in the Casino.

Just reopened in a new, larger location in Dartmouth is Ground Zero Climbing Gym (The Wright Place, Corner of Wright Ave. and John Savage Drive in Burnside, 468-8788). It’s Atlantic Canada’s largest indoor climbing facility, perhaps not for those with vertigo. | Also across the water, The Dartmouth Yoga & Wellness Studio (166 Ochterloney, 464-2225) has been open since January, sharing space with Alderney Chiropractic and providing a full schedule of yoga instruction and pilates. Visit dartmouthyoga.com for more information. | Noting that his customers are really enjoying the fresh produce on offer, Noelvis Rochela, owner of Cubano’s Minimarket (5 Thistle, Dartmouth, 405-3060) has just completed a mini-renovation of his Latino grocery. “More shelves,” says Rochela, of the changes, “for inventory of fruit and vegetables. They’re selling pretty good so I want to make more room.” | All locations of PC Medic (the Halifax store is at 2760 Robie, 455-4357) are in the midst of a 10th Anniversary Sale, running until at least the end of April. Stop in for $1 deals on select used gear and other sweet deals. | Alterego’s Coffee House (2193 Gottingen, 431-3170) is starting up a Sunday brunch, 10am-1pm. It’s all you can eat for $10, including local apple cider from Hutton farms and fair trade coffee. | Some recent additions to the menu at Hamachi Grill and Sushi House (644 Portland, Dartmouth, 444-4688) include brown rice sushi and Thai items such as Pad Thai, sweet and sour pork, Thai bbq chicken. Plus, the patio is now open on sunny days. | Have you been providing succor to Gamblor, the vengeful god of games of chance? Do you find it makes you hungry? As of last week, if you drop into Trapeze, the eatery in Casino Nova Scotia (1983 Upper Water, 496-4690), you’ll note the pub-like food is gone, replaced by tasty Italian bistro-themed dishes. Whether Gamblor has brought his mighty fist upon you, or spared you to wager another day, the good food will be there to keep you going.
