Suzanne Hickey and Steve Anderson know potential when they see it. The pair met about a year-and-a-half ago, connecting over a shared interest in home style that quickly became more than just a hobby.
Anderson is a graphic designer-cum-carpenter, with a love for building furniture. Hickey took an interior design degree "just for fun" while working in marketing. Together they've teamed up to create relove, a business that upcycles vintage finds, giving new life to furniture and accessories that need a little TLC. "I took the leap and started to officially pursue my passion and left my job to study carpentry," says Anderson. "Creating relove gives me the opportunity to push my skills further and alter the path I was on."
Pieces found at yard sales, flea markets and via classified ads are their muses, reclaimed materials are their secret weapons and the results are mid-century modern accessories you won't find in a furniture store, or a friend's living room. They are true treasures. Plus, they say, buying from relove is a responsible shopping choice you can feel good about.
"Our items are truly one-of-a-kind," says Hickey. "And they each have a past life and a bit of a story behind them. Most people also love to see the transformation of the pieces. You feel good about giving something old a new lease on life, being environmentally friendly, scoring a piece of excellent quality at a reasonable price and shopping locally."
