On Renee Ross's Radar

Manna for Health

Renee Ross
executive director, Stepping Stone
If there’s anyone who knows about fighting the hard fight with a shortage of funds and an uphill PR battle, it’s Rene Ross, who has stewarded the scrappy sex worker advocate organization Stepping Stone into a force to be reckoned with in the community. So we asked her what other organizations are out there that might need a little help.

Ross rattles off the names of several organizations that were already on our below-the-radar list, then settles on one we hadn’t heard of: Manna for Health.

“It’s church-based,” she says, perhaps anticipating some reluctance from The Coast. “But they’re doing really important and necessary work, operating as a food bank for people with AIDS. These are people who don’t have a lot of options, and often have health issues that make it difficult to access other resources.”

How to give: Manna for Health operates out of the Bloomfield Centre. The group needs volunteers, food and money. To help call 429-7670.
