Joe Nelson and Aileen Anderson’s marriage was a union nearly 12 years in the making. To his surprise, 19-year-old Joe found the love of his life bent over a mini-fridge on his first day of work at Burger King. “Lucky for me the most beautiful posterior I’d ever seen turned into the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen when she stood up,” he reminisces of the first time he ever saw his future bride. Seven years and 50 weeks (not that anyone was counting) after they started dating, Joe popped the question. He jokingly had twice before---once with a plastic arcade ring and again with a cigar ring---but the third time was the charm that got the ball rolling on their rustic farm nuptials. While Joe cites the mechanical bull as the reason the pair chose to say “I do” at Hatfield Farm, the venue fit Aileen’s dream of a shabby-chic wedding to a T. After some tearful vows, a swoon-worthy first dance and a surprise Spider-man cake for Joe, guests made S’mores on a bonfire, rode that bull and had celebratory jousting matches in the bouncy castle. By focussing on the fun little details, Joe and Aileen created an evening that reflected their playful personalities perfectly. “The only detail that really mattered to me was that Aileen showed up,” says Joe. “After 11-and-a-half years, she still did for some reason.”
