Solid Rococode

This Vancouver quartet knows how to do pop proud.

Solid Rococode
You want Guns, Sex & Glory? You got it.

Vancouver's Rococode is having a picnic when I reach Andrew Braun on the phone. They've just spent six long, show-less days driving across the country and they're taking a load off before beginning a 20-plus date tour back home. The four-piece arty pop band came together when jazz school pals Braun and Laura Smith started writing songs together, and buzz for their debut record Guns, Sex & Glory has continued to snowball since it's release last winter. It's pop, but it's solid as a rock. "A great vocal delivery is something that I really latch onto," says Braun. "It's all about something that sticks with you, whether it's interesting sound or lyric." And Rococode aren't just creating candy for the ears, but for the eyes too. The band's released a number of incredibly beautiful videos (Interview magazine's website debuted one of them, nbd) and help fans keep tabs on their life on the road through short and thoughtful vignettes. "There are lots of ways for a band to be artistic," says Braun. "Visuals, photos, designing a poster---we enjoy it all."
