If you're a comic fan counting down the days until Hal-Con, Strange Adventures is making the wait easier. On August 19, the first-ever Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival (DCAF) is taking place at Alderney Landing (11am-5pm).

The event is free and will be an opportunity for people to learn more about comics, shop, meet cartoonists and have their own portfolios reviewed by experts like Marvel comic book artists Steve McNiven (Wolverine, The Amazing Spider-Man, pre-registration is required for portfolio review, email [email protected]).

"It's essentially a craft fair focused on comics. We're not looking at programming but certainly we'd like to encourage anyone looking to get into cartooning and comics to come out. We won't have a panel to discuss that but a lot of the cartoonists around are full time cartoonists and it's an opportunity to ask questions," says Calum Johnston, owner of Strange Adventures. People to meet include Mike Holmes (True Story), Faith Erin Hicks (Friends with Boys), Nick Bradshaw (Rokkin) and more. There will also be dealers of older comic books selling coveted copies, if you're looking to add that ever elusive copy to your collection.
