Pardis Parker
Comedian, actor, scholar and award-winning filmmaker, Halifax’s Pardis Parker’s career is off to the races.

Parker’s short film Afghan took home first place at this year’s Imago Film Festival in Illinois. The movie, along with his second short film Two Men, Two Cows, Two Guns, were juror picks at the 2011 Buttered Corn on the Cob Film Festival, also held in Illinois. This follows his jury award for first place at the 2010 Desiderata Film Festival in New York. Word is Parker is developing the short as a feature.

Afghan is laced with humour but maintains a sombre racial undertone. Parker stars in the production alongside Picnicface’s Mark Little.

The movie opens with Little’s character taking a picture of a white VW. As he walks past the car, we see he was aiming at a “Go home Arab” slur spray-painted on the side.
