Let Viva Flamenco be your Valentine

The Halifax-based, Spanish-inspired performance group is shooting for a sell-out hat trick.

Let Viva Flamenco be your Valentine
The fiery Viva Flamenco.

You know what would make Valentine's Day a lot better? If you were in southern Spain, falling in love with sunny skies, flamenco vibes and the colourful culture---so wrapped up in the passion of it all you wouldn't even notice your sangria-stained teeth. And if you did, you probably wouldn't care. Pipa Restaurant is doing its best to take you there (except for maybe that sunshine part) by inviting Viva Flamenco back for their third Valentine's Day celebration. Three dancers, two guitarists and percussionists, a singer and a flutist bringing the heat in the form of original choreography and compositions normally performed in Spain. Viva Flamenco's Martine Durier-Copp calls the ensemble "committed to authentic and pure flamenco that will provide an unforgettable experience," and no doubt she's right. Add three courses of traditional food, a selection of wines (and sangria) and it's no wonder the last two years were sellouts.

Tue Feb 14, Pipa, 1685 Argyle Street, 7pm, $20 ($45 w/dinner), 407-7472
