Last week at the reachAbility Association, the BluenoseAbility Film Festival announced the winners and finalists of the BAFF awards and shortlists in the region's first disability film festival. From December 3 to 5, BAFF will show films that encourage participation of persons with disabilities, celebrating the unique contributions of the disability arts and culture movement. The festival opens on the United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

With submissions of docs and shorts from all over the world, the judges selected the most outstanding films in each category (listed below); judges for this year's BAFF awards include Caley MacLennan (Director/Producer, Noon Gun), Bill Wood (comedian, Picnicface), Dr. Bruce Mills (composer, co-founder of ReachAbility) and Adria Young (writer, The Coast).

Winner: Regional Youth (12-24) Category

A City, A Person (Christian McCuaig & Ryan David Butt)

This short documentary celebrates the relationship between Andrew Taylor (pictured above) and his new home of Halifax, after leaving Musquodoboit to live independently for the first time.
