Filmmakers have a long history of working in Nova Scotia—Evangeline, shot here over 100 years ago, was one of the first movies made in Canada. But in recent years, the province’s natural beauty and historic charms that might appeal to cinematographers were augmented by the film tax credit, which appeals to the producers who are writing the cheques. The tax credit was introduced in 1995, and as you can see in this animated timeline, by no coincidence at all that’s when local filmmaking took off.
Scrolling through the timeline can be a bit fussy, because software. When you zoom into one movie, swipe left and right (on a tablet) or use the arrows on your keyboard (desktop) to go to the next. Spacebar will zoom you back out on desktop, and pinching is supposed to but doesn’t always work on tablets. If you type some text in the “filter events” box at the upper right, that seems to make pinching to zoom out work. A bit better. And if you notice we forgot to include a movie or TV production, please mention it in the comments.
