More street eats

As the summer goes on Halifax gets extra food-in-a-truck options

Street vendors are a happy and tasty addition to our eating-out choices in Halifax, and we've recently had some new additions to that scene.

Witness Josh & Jedd’s Fish & Chips regularly on Argyle Street by Parade Square. "Although much of our fare is relatively similar to that offered by the competition, we decided to focus on two key points to differentiate ourselves," explains Josh Parkinson (who owns the truck with Stephan Jeddry) in an email to The Coast. "1. Fish: We do a lightly battered fish. It’s much lighter that the standard beer batter and comes out nice and tender. Although the fish is deep fried, it would compete and probably beat most pan fried options in HRM. 2. Poutine: Being from Cornwall Ontario, I had the pleasure of enjoying fresh cheese curds from St-Albert’s throughout my childhood. What I’ve noticed since moving to Halifax in 1998 is that the cheese is nowhere near as good as the cheese I had grown up with. What we’re doing is importing cheese curds from St- Albert’s to be able to put together the best poutine possible."

Also keep your eyes open for Wannawafel, a local street vendor franchisee of the Belgian waffle cafe from out west. It's often found near the corner of Spring Garden Road and Grafton Street.
