Ma Bell’s Café opens in Dartmouth

“If it’s not made with love, we’re not serving it.” That’s the motto of a new café in downtown Dartmouth called Ma Bell’s Café (44 Ochterloney Street, 466-1322) in the old Copper Kettle space. Co-owners Florence Fogarty and Tom Bell were inspired by Bell’s mother who once ran a Treats in Penhorn Mall, and whose dream it was to open a café just like this one. “We’re living her dream,” says Fogarty. Both a café and a homestyle cooking restaurant, Ma Bell’s offers a wide selection of made-from-scratch panini sandwiches, soups and salads, tasty quiches and homemade desserts. “We’re known for our cinnamon rolls,” says Fogarty, who in mind of the loss of the popular Queen of Cups café to Dartmouth, is filling the absence by offering over 50 kinds of tea and 25 coffees to customers, as well as a cozy, fireplace-heated back room in which to enjoy your hot beverage.
