To the editor,
I am writing to remind the woman who knocked me off my bicycle with her car while turning into a driveway on September 18, on Quinpool Road, of a minor detail. While I appreciate that you paused before you drove into the sunset, the minor detail would be to contact the police.
With regard to the letter in The Coast from Matthew MacDonald ("Thanks…but no thanks,") September 20, who wrote in to thank a driver who struck his wife cycling on Quinpool Road: How can you be so cynical? In these cases it's invariably the case that the driver's cellphone call is more important than concerns about your wife's ability to complete her courses, with or without a broken body. It's a dangerous precedent to suggest that distractions like driving detract from important business on the phone.
Mr. MacDonald, where are your priorities? Where is your faith? You question the city's bike lanes that go nowhere? Have faith that it's all part of the plan: Maybe they don't need to go anywhere. The bike lanes are clearly placed well inside existing car lanes, right in the path of traffic. This conforms to the plan---similar to the Armdale Rotary plan, with buses and trucks being phased in first, of course. But don't worry about that, we'll be long gone before that affects us, the cyclist: not so much like the passenger pigeon, but more like the bison, slaughtered to the point of near-extinction.
