Art gallery and studio represent local talent

New gallery opens on Gottingen and a new studio in Dartmouth

The endeavour of economist Keegan Whelan and his artist mother Marilyn, art&jules will be having its launch this coming weekend, June 5 through 7, in the space once occupied by Taz Records at 2089 Gottingen (407-3390). “I’m handling the business and she’s making everything look pretty,” says Keegan. The gallery, now open, hosts the work of approximately 40 established and emerging artists in everything from pottery to jewellery and contemporary to traditional art. They also offer lessons in a variety of media including jewellery-making, watercolour, oil and acrylic painting. The grand opening promises to be grand and open to all, and if you are an artist or artisan interested in perhaps joining the gallery, drop by or call the number above. Hours are 10am-6pm, Monday-Saturday and 12pm-5pm Sunday.

Speaking of fine arts, over in Dartmouth, The Forrestall Studio (3 Albert Street, 476-3006) reps a series of fine and commercial artists. The studio was started a couple of months back by Frank Forrestall, son of Order of Nova Scotia and Order of Canada recipient Tom Forrestall, and is a family business, with a collection of creative Forrestalls numbered among the artists represented---including Tom---though not limited to them. The artists’ work ranges from painterly illustration to computer-generated and manipulated images, and has been seen in comic books, commercials and on film and television, as well as lining gallery walls. The intent is to create a database of Nova Scotia artists through the studio. For more information visit forrestalstudio.com.
