They say good things come to those who wait, but gorgeous weddings come to them, too. After nearly 14 years together, Paul Smith and Zelda Carter tied the knot last fall on a day that was both a DIYer's dream and a Halloween-lover's fantasy. They'd only been dating a year or so when Paul popped the question to Zelda with a Canadian diamond—no band, just the rock—so that she could design the big, ornate ring of her dreams herself, with the help of Fireworks Gallery. It wasn't until last year the longtime pair decided to make it official with a fall wedding. "I love Halloween, and I love skulls," says Zelda. "But it was just fluke that it was the day after Halloween." The name of the game was easy: they wanted a stress-free day with good food, music and photos and their three children involved. "We wanted to just throw a really cool party, and I think we did that," she says, looking back at their day at St. Mary's Boat Club. But more than that she created one hell of a unique wedding— you name it, there was a skull on it. Creative, crafty and hardworking, Zelda made just about every spooky bit of decor herself, from wine labels to centerpieces to cupcake wrappers to itty-bitty, hand-folded coffins for her favours. But the ultimate detail? Halloween ink. Zelda surprised Paul with a tattoo of his initials she'd got the day before their ceremony: "P.S. I love you." Now that's a vow.
