Sri Lanka and Prospect Bay meet for a true family affair

Carolle & Rohan, Married August 21, 2010

For Carolle Crooks and Rohan Fernando getting married wasn’t just about their union, but the merger of their families, too. Rohan, a filmmaker, proposed to Carolle, Mocean Dance’s artistic director, in Belize in 2009 and just over a year later their loved ones gathered in Carolle’s parents’ backyard garden in Prospect Bay for a sunny summer wedding. “Sri Lanka meets Prospect Bay was perfect for the two of us,” she says. “We just wanted it to be a celebration of our two families.” Guests wore colourful sarees, wedding favors were bindis and bangles and their mothers followed Sri Lankan wedding tradition by lighting an oil lamp together at the ceremony. Granite Springs Golf Club hosted the meal and reception, where Carolle traded her wedding white for a green sari and the chef cooked up a Sri Lankan menu inspired by Rohan’s mother’s own recipes and spices.
