Runner-up: Mike Smith
Canadian Idol was the water cooler show of the summer and Cherry Brook’s own Gary Beals was right at the centre of it. A genuinely nice guy with a fantastic voice, Beals went all the way to the finals. Although he didn't win the big “prize” (releasing that horrid “Something More” single) he still won the hearts of Canadians from coast to coast, beating out Trailer Park Boys favourite Mike Smith in the process. Not bad at all, considering Rick Mercer practically owned this category for four years.
