Cunny Ross (New Music 2016)

The mixtape sensation is building a movement.

Some people don't just make music, they make movements. For 19-year-old Alex "Cunny" Ross, R&B helps him take positive steps in his world. "I'm from Uniacke Square, born and raised," he says. Last year, Ross sold all 50 copies of his first mixtape Young Coming Up in less than 48 hours. Encouraged, he started Family Over Fame, named after his second mixtape from last summer. "It's not just a clothing line or CD but a positive movement. It means that we don't forget where we come from." Working with artists like Woozy and RealEyez, Family Over Fame also means "helping each other out." Not only does he work hard to stay on track, his songs represent the things he does and the places he goes: "Baby, what are you doing after The Dome?" he sings on "Comin Thru." Ross says his songs "hit the heart, but we all like to have fun so I also make R&B party jams for the ladies.
