Bike Week—it’s like riding a bike

Bike Week’s not just for confident cyclers, so grab a helmet and get involved.

Bike Week—it’s like riding a bike
Sometimes “it’s like riding a bike,” is no kind of comfort.

Sometimes people say things like "it's like riding a bike," when referencing something you haven't done in ages but are expected to pick up again with no problems. Listen guys, sometimes it's not like riding a bike, sometimes it's careening into a ditch and scraping up all your exposed bits. Which is why, thank the cycle deity for Bike Week, when even the scared shitless like me can take to two wheels in the city with confidence. Well, right after you pop a few prep courses like I Heart Bikes' free Conquering Your Urban Environment (Sat Jun 1, 3-5pm; Tue Jun 4, 4-6pm) or Sandra Bennett's Bicycling---Everything You Need to Know (Wed Jun 5, 12-1:30pm, Spring Garden Library), with the basics under your bike helmet, nothing can stop you (except traffic signals, they're important and should be heeded). Once you're popping wheelies with the best of them it's the perfect time to take in a group cycle with the NS Ramblers or Velo Bicycle Clubs---ranging in length and strength-needed, you're bound to fit in somewhere---I recommend the Flaming Dinos Off-Road Family Bike Ride, because what? And if you're not having as much fun as a kid, you're doing it wrong.
