Brooklyn-based artist Alice Cohen and Broken Deer (AKA Lindsay Dobbin in the Yukon) have collaborated on a stop-motion collage video, with Cohen providing the images and Broken Deer sitting on the musical end. The catch? They've never met. "The video collaboration came about after Lindsay saw another video I made on the internet---she sent me her music, and we began to flesh out a video based on email conversations and rough drafts I would put up on my Vimeo page," says Cohen, adding that she enjoyed working digitally because it kept her and Dobbin's interactions "pure and focused." Dobbin's song, "White Woman," mystically plays to images Cohen put together to represent Dobbin's life in the Yukon, using cut-outs of frontier-type women, deer antlers, a feather---all images Cohen says came from old books and magazines she found in thrift stores. The feeling of the Yukon's long and dark winter is something foreign to Cohen, as she lives in "a very urban Brooklyn landscape," so she let Dobbin's song dictate what ended up being a theme of women exploring and interacting with nature. Check out the video Friday night, along with other artists performing on the evening's bill. –Holly Gordon
