    Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène

    Sat., Oct. 27
Lilian Piercey Concert Hall 6199 Chebucto Road, Halifax West End

When Paris fell for Helen of Troy, it was only a matter of time until Helen's hubby went to war to get her back—and really, it was only a matter of time until someone made an opera spoofing the whole thing, too, after centuries of it all being taken so seriously. Here, as part of the 2018 FrancoFest celebrations, we see a fully staged production of Offenbach's comedic, operatic retelling of the events leading up to the Trojan War —complete with the original French libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy.

    Julie Nesrallah

    Sun., Nov. 4, 2 p.m.
Lilian Piercey Concert Hall 6199 Chebucto Road, Halifax West End

Cecilia Concerts describes this set by Lebanese-Canadian mezzo-soprano Julie Nesralla—backed by concert pianist Robert Kortgaar—as showcase of "opera, big hair, and grande passione in a deliciously entertaining afternoon of Italian art songs, torchy ballads and musical theatre curiosities."

    Sara Davis Buechner

    Sat., Nov. 17, 7 p.m.
Lilian Piercey Concert Hall 6199 Chebucto Road, Halifax West End

Event organizers Cecilia Concerts call Buechner "one of the most original concert pianists of our time," and she's garnered enough international awards to back up such big talk. Here, at her Halifax debut, the pianist—who's performed with the likes of the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestras—delivers a set including pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frédéric Chopin and George Gershwin.

    Andrew Son

    Sun., Nov. 25, 2 p.m.
Lilian Piercey Concert Hall 6199 Chebucto Road, Halifax West End

Award-winning ivory tickler Andrew Son caps off his tour of Atlantic Canada with this free show, covering classical works by Chopin, Scarlatti, Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff.
