Sarah Burwash

Calling the Caves chronicles Canadian landscape with drawings, sewn works, pottery and jewelry.

Sarah Burwash
Calling the Caves is at Lost & Found until May 8.

Last summer, Sarah Burwash traded one coast for the other. She and two friends drove from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, stretching the trip out over a month and a half by stopping in towns along the way to work on organic farms and making sure to take in landscapes they weren't familiar with. Though she'd done her fair share of travelling, the vastness of Canada was still pretty foreign to Burwash. Her curiosities were piqued after spending a winter living in a heli-ski lodge in the Rockies; the isolated, pollution-free, unfamiliar environment made her want to see more. "It was just an opportunity to look closer at the country, to get a broad perspective of the different coasts," says Burwash of her move east. Calling the Caves shares that perspective, and Burwash's experiences travelling the kilometres of terrain in between, showcasing drawings, sewn works, pottery and jewellery---a collection of works just as vast as its inspiration.
