Tradition is the centrepiece at most families’ tables, and the same goes for ye olde Mic Mac Bar & Grill. While the reasons this classic spot is good for the whole family are plenty—unpretentious atmosphere, crowd-pleasing classic eats, friendly service and big portions—its longstanding reputation draws folks of all types to the table because that’s just the way it’s always been. “We’ve been around since ’63 so we have a name for ourselves, but it’s still a lot of work,” says the restaurant’s GM Joël Chiasson of his team’s aim to please grannies and preschoolers alike. The price point doesn’t hurt either, he adds. “I don’t think anyone in the city could serve what we serve for the price. We’re fortunate we do so much volume so we can.”
