Long Lake

Once you get in from St. Margarets Bay Road, it won’t take long for you to begin to feel as though you’re nowhere near a city of 300,000 inhabitants. The paths vary, from the root-lined and muddy to the clear, smooth and long, depending on which way you go. If you pack a lunch and the dog, you can rapidly find yourselves deep in the woods, and just as suddenly discover a perfect, flat rock to swim off of, taking long strokes in tea-coloured water. As a provincial park there are no motorized watercraft to disturb the peace, so revel in it.

First runner up: Cape Split

Second runner up: Duncans Cove
