It was a year of firsts for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Under the leadership of director/curator Jeffrey Spalding, the provincial gallery opened a branch in Yarmouth. They hired David Woods as the Associate Curator of African Canadian Art and acquired a painting by Edward Bannister, in a belated homecoming for the 19th century landscape artist. Don’t forget Art of the Ancient World, which brought in over 7,000 school kiddies to see an Egyptian mummy. Looks like the AGNS has this category all wrapped up. 1723 Hollis, 424-7542
