Chasing the horizon

Upon entering the gallery, you are confronted by a six-foot tall tangle of metal cables that seems both chaotic and somehow methodical. To your right, you glimpse a storyboard-esque arrangement of distorted colour photographs; behind you, a monochromatic photo of New Mexico, a circular diagram and a story of a boy who is bitten by […]

It’s a red carpet event that encourages “circus formal” attire and raises money for the AGNS’ arts education programs (including their […]

AGNS gets a new cafe

Shoptalk has learned that the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (1741 Hollis Street, 424-7542) has awarded the tender for their cafe space—previously filled by Scanway and their Cheapside Cafe—to the fine folks at the Armview Grill cvompany, owners of the Armview Restaurant and Lounge. The new cafe, estimated to open in February 2011, is going by the witty handle of Untitled Eats. It will feature a largely local food-filled menu and will offer counter (take away) as well as table service along with catering for meetings, receptions, and other events.

Art of gold

“Trust your gut instinct. The best thing you can do is love it, because you have to live with it! I deal with NSCAD students and alumni, and people always come in and ask, ‘Who will be successful? Who will be famous?’ It’s hard to say, since we do everything: jewellery, textiles, ceramics and paintings. […]
