It’s Sobey Art Award time again, which means work from some of Canada’s best contemporary artists will be gracing the walls, and floors of the AGNS. The shortlisted six (Charles Stankeivech, Sarah Anne Johnson, Daniel Young, Christian Giroux, Manon De Pauw and Zeke Moores) bring varied works in video, photography and sculpture to the exhibit. “When I made the longlist I felt like I already won,” says Newfoundland native Moores, who’s work represents Atlantic Canada. His sculptures pay tribute to the well engineered, everyday items, “the mundane things around us that we take no interest in.” The exhibit includes his Construction Grade, nine cast bronze Boxes and the brand new nickel-plated Port-o-Potty which he made after being nominated for the award. The winning artist will be announced October13.
Opens September 17, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, 1723 Hollis Street
