Social media was abuzz this morning with news that Urban Outfitters will open a store on Barrington Street. Evidently, the story was first in AllNovaScotia.com, an online news service that guards its material so closely that reporters with other media in town are not allowed access, so unfortunately we can’t tell you what the report said. But here’s some of the twitter reaction:

Problem is, the story’s not true. The allnovascotia.com story “is way out of proportion,” says Rob Landry, the Halifax leasing agent for Starfish Properties, which owns the former Sam the Record Man space said to be the future home of Urban Outfitters.

“Nothing is signed,” continues Landry. “We’re not in negotiations with anyone for that space.”

Landry won’t give any further information, but we are left with the impression that Starfish has put feelers out lots of different potential renters, but that’s as far as it’s gone: feelers.

We see this as another example of the media running with a story simply to be first, before it can be confirmed.

  1. Probably would have been sufficient to print Landry’s comments and save us the editorializing about a rival publication.

  2. That’s how The Coast rollllllls. It’s not enough to print the facts, you have to SHUT UP WE SHUT DOWN KELLY FOR YOU PEOPLE*

    *a homage to WORLD-CLASS CITY, THAT’S WHY

  3. Priceless. This coming from The Coast and Tim Bousquet. The weekly publication that on a fairly regular basis has to redact articles and post public apologies. What a hypocrite.
