Dear Rodney MacDonald,

As president of the St. Francis Xavier Students’ Union, I urge you to start saving for your son’s education. Perhaps offer some fiddling lessons when you have some free time, and make sure that Ryan gets out working at an early age. As a student, trust me—you had both better start saving now.

In Nova Scotia, we the students starve, skimp and suffer. We ARE the single issue that needs to be addressed.

If current trends continue, about the time your son is applying to your alma mater, StFX, tuition will cost about $25,000 per year. Make sure you take into consideration the tax he’s going to have to pay on the thousands of dollars worth of books he’ll need, the cost of living in a residence that’s falling apart and the expense of buying a meal plan that’s been farmed out to a multi-national corporation. I suggest a pink piggy bank.
