The Daily Grind’s (5686 Spring Garden Road, 429-6397) impending move down the street to the Mills Brothers building is coming along more or less on schedule, says owner Ann Franz, who expects an October 1 move-in date. The new space, which faces Birmingham Street, comes complete with three fireplaces.

Franz says the newsstand part of the operation will essentially close down, although she may have “a few” newspapers and magazines at the new place.

The Grind’s current Spring Garden Road space is as of yet not re-leased, should anyone want a high-profile storefront.

  1. They’re going to compete with Starbucks and Second Cup? Holt-Renfrew and Ogilvy’s have dining areas so it may work out, though I think a lot of the wives would prefer to show off their shopping bags at a coffee shop that the general public can see them at.

  2. I have been going to the Daily Grind since it opened, and am missing it now. The coffee doesn’t compare, the service always with a smile and kind word. The food alway fresh and beautiful display, and certainly tastes as good as it looked. I can hardly wait to see the New Daily Grind, and think it is a bonus to be able to shop and stop for a coffee, or just a snack!!! All the best wishes, and PLEASE open soon.

  3. I have been going to the Daily Grind since it opened, and miss it dearly. The coffee was always fresh and uncomparable. The baked goods and sandwiches always display beautifully. Service with a smile and a kind word. I think it will be great to shop and stop for a coffee, cool drink or snack, and am looking forward to their new location opening SOON I hope. All the best of luck and good wishes!!!!

  4. I can’t wait for the shop to open again. I miss the chance to sit, relax, enjoy a great cup of coffee and a “yummy” sweet.
