The downtown bars are closing. It’s 3am on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. You’re walking home with your friends—perhaps to the townhouses halfway down Duncan Street. The street looks dark and deserted, as if you’re the only ones here—but inside all of those houses are your neighbours. We can hear your voices and everything you’re saying. Why? Because our front bedrooms are only 20 feet away from the sidewalk and you just woke us up. Are we annoyed? You bet we are. You may not have to get up at 7am, but we do. —Your Neighbours

  1. There you go kids… should you inadvertently awake the neighbours, please knock on the door and apologize. No need to worry, they are already awake.

  2. Move to a quieter part of the city. You want the halifax scene but not the noise. Personally I can’t do earplugs while sleeping.

  3. What? They don’t roll up the sidewalks and turn out the lights on Duncan St after 9pm? Well fuck me, I thought the city would be super quiet, and the people would be considerate and neighborly.

  4. For starters you are living smack dab almost mid-peninsula of a multi university college town and on a street that has some student housing and is also near other student housing. Granted they should be quiet but that does not tend to happen much unless the police help by enforcing any noise by-laws and that can be hit and miss. I used to live on South Park St. years back and accepted the after bar traffic as part of the hood being on the flight path towards SMU and Dal etc.
