You were one bus length past the bus stop, yet you were stopped at the red light in the right lane going nowhere and still refused to let me get on. I don’t care what the protocol expects of you. Simple decency would be to let customer get on the bus if it is still safe to do so. Moron! —Fed up with Bureaucratic Assholes

  1. They cannot do it, it’s against the rules. I wouldn’t really be willing to stick out my neck and risk losing my job for a stranger. Would you?

  2. Definitely not angel….. once they pull away from that bus stop liability becomes an issue. Should have been there when the bus was letting people on at its rightful place. Or just hop on the next bus going somewhere near where you needed to go. It was a beautiful day….. an extra five minutes of walking once you got off a different bus would have been a joy I’d think…….

  3. OP, you should know the murphy’s law of the 9: if you’re late getting to the stop, the bus will inevitably be early, and if you’re early to the stop, you’re going to be waiting forever. You either get used to it, or move. The 9 is never on time.

Jonnoman, if the OP lives in the north end, they can only take the 9 or the 7 without walking for 10 minutes or so to catch the buses on Robie. It really sucks. I used to always debate between taking the 9 and the 7, but even if you catch the next 9 it’s often faster to get downtown than taking the 7.

  4. maybe if you combed your hair and didn’t smell like a wet, cheesy fart in a hot shower the day after taco night… they might have taken a second thought.

  5. they’ve privatized the bus service in Vancouver and omg it’s niceorama here I’m guessing they’re not all unioned up so they are courteous, helpful, accomadating etc. it’s a beautiful thing !

  6. Unfortunatly procrastination on your part does not constitute as an emergency on his part.
Don’t get shitty with others cause you can’t get to your bus on time.

  7. Hungry must be getting to you ES, you uncorrected your grammar, lol.

If a bus is at an intersection, there’s no hope of getting on unless the bus stop is right there. This isn’t protocol, this is legality, and also dangerous. Most buses can’t move with either door open (stupid safety…) so if the driver opens up and the light goes green, there are cars a plenty behind said bus wondering WTF the bus is doing, then they swerve around the bus blindly in a rage, and nothing good can come of that. Best case scenario, it blocks traffic.

Why say more, my fellow bitchers have said it all already.

  8. Opps, Sorry about that PDG, you’re right. At a quick glace I thought I said it wrong and figured I should correct myself, no I really feel dumb lol. I think hungry has got to me. lol

    I’m going to lunch

  9. Simply put IF the bus driver had stopped to let you on and was seen by a traffic inforcer or a cop the DRIVER would/could have been fine several hundred dollars. I spoke to a driver one night about this when a simular thing happened, they said they do it sometimes to be nice, but generally its not worth the fine for them to risk it….. kinda makes sense to me

  10. Why doesn’t the 7 just run in a complete loop? Strange route, though it’s been that way for as long as I can remember.

  11. Yea, yea legalities my ass. They won’t stop for a human but will for a stuffed seal, coffee, snack ,etc, etc.

  12. I think the only way to keep this OP happy is to give her/him/it their own portable, collapsable bus sign so they can pull it out when ever they need a bus at their beck and call.

  13. “”they’ve privatized the bus service in Vancouver and omg it’s niceorama here I’m guessing they’re not all unioned up so they are courteous, helpful, accomadating etc. it’s a beautiful thing !”‘

Coast Mountain drivers make 28.00+ an hour plus tons of fatttt overtime, plus 4 weeks paid vacation to START, up to 7 after a few years, health care, pension…the list goes on…they’re smiling because they make more than you!

    Not “all unioned up”? wtf?

    You’re kidding, right?

  14. what were they making when they were basically civil servants and yea 28 bucks is about right for that kinda work; I’m not an expert on Bc transit in the old days but beleive me i know TTC union types that pretty much have to kill someone to get fired and get way more benefits than the average private sector union worker

  15. This has gotten retarded, there was no good reason not to let you on. I’d be fuming too. And I call BS on the rules, they’d stop in the USA and they’re way more litiginous. Too many people are just following orders instead of common sense.

  16. Common sense is somewhat lacking in our so called, civilized country. You think you’ve got problems getting on transit. Please then, look no further than, a google away and check out transit in India. A country that has upgraded their middle-class to 300 million in 10 short years…except for their infrastructure….It’s a hoot:)

  17. I just watched a bus pull away from an older couple this morning as they frantically tried to wave it down…

classic. started the day off right….
with watching frustration and anger in those who need it least.

  18. OP, if the bus stopped for everyone who couldn’t get their ass to the stop ontime, the schedule would be even more fuck’d than it already is. There’s nothing more annoying to those on the bus who actually managed to drag their arses to the stop ON TIME (imagine that!) than having to wait for some schlep who couldn’t get themselves to a bus stop in time to catch the scheduled bus. Especially if said people already on the bus have transfers to make, or have some place to be. It’s not OUR fault you’re unable to manage your time better (and YES, sometimes I’m late for the bus, but when it drives by me I just chalk it up to my own inability to get myself to the stop ontime and shrug it off — I don’t blame the driver and call them a “moron.” I don’t do that because I have some sense of personal responsibility. You might want to get some yourself, OP).

Busses are *rarely* early, and it’s a good idea to get to the stop at least 5-10 minutes before it’s supposed to get to the stop if possible.

  19. I love public transit here (sarcasm implied).
I’m not sure about NB but so far I think it’s only NS that does that.
In ON, QC, AB and BC, you can catch a bus while it’s at the curb on a red light.
Sometimes they let you off. That’s what traffic lights are for aren’t they? Fr the safety of drivers and pedestrians, and to control traffic?
I don’t see how it’s unsafe or against the rules when a bus could stop 10 feet from a light and pick someone up, but won’t do it while at that red light 10 feet from that same bus stop?! That just doesn’t make sense. That’s it. Logic, Common Sense. That’s almost non-existent in NS.

I think most of the people living here are close-minded people. We refuse change, and hate advancement. So I can see why the bus drivers act that way.
Red Light, 10 feet from a bus stop, bus is waiting at the red light on the curb side of the street. To me, that’s less dangerous than stopping 10 feet from a green light with cars zooming by on the other side. I say helmets while walking is next on the agenda. Hence the reason why I stop skating in arenas. A helmet will not save you. You could easily break your neck. It’s just another money making scheme!
